Research into Portrayal of Young Relationships in Films

We wanted to see how teenage love is depicted in films so we watched some clips to learn camera, editing and acting techniques which helped convey an accurate representation of it.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
From watching this we gathered:

  • Use of shot reverse shot in the conversation is important and worked well as it helps you constantly see the awkwardness that they both feel in reaction to each other during the conversation
  • Random dialogue like when Harry says "Probably full of nargles" again communicates the awkwardness and is typical of a teenager in a situation were they feel slightly unsure of what to do. It helps shows the other person makes them feel nervous because they are attracted to them which in turn makes them say silly things
  • Restricted quite stiff body movements and gestures helps show shyness and lack of comfortability to fully express themselves around each other.
From watching this clip and taking notes we can apply some of things we learn to the our film.
